Tigers are some of the most beautiful and charismatic mammals on Earth, but land development and poachers are depleting the tiger population.

Tigers are often killed for sport, spectacle and folk remedies in a practice that has driven the species to the edge of extinction. According to the Guardian, police in the city of Zhanjiang seized 10 dead tigers in March 2014. The tigers were killed as live entertainment for local businessmen.


The prestige of killing a tiger is only one of many reasons the number of wild tigers is declining as of 2014. Tigers continue to be poached and their pelts mounted as trophies. Various parts of the tiger's anatomy are used in traditional Chinese medicine. According to the Guardian, tiger meat and bones are sometimes given to Chinese officials as gifts by businessmen.

Ages 4 to 8 years: 25 milligrams per day.
Ages 1-10 years: 30 milligram per day.
Ages 11-14 years: 35 milligram per day.
Over the age of 15 years: 40 milligram per day.
